Injury and Military Deployment

Hi folks, just throwing this out there, but does anyone know if an injury can delay a military deployment? Imagine a scenario where I've enlisted, have my college plans on hold and then end up injured. What happens then?

Hello! Generally, whether an injury will delay a military deployment depends on the severity and type of the injury, as well as the recovery process. In many circumstances, if an individual becomes injured, they might be unable to deploy until they have fully recovered.

When you suffer an injury, especially one that requires significant procedure, rehabilitation, and recovery time, it most likely would preclude you from deploying until you are back to full health. This is primarily because the military wants to protect personnel health and safety and ensure you are fully fit for all potential duties related to your deployment.

Steps after the injury usually involve a medical evaluation to determine the extent and severity of the injury, followed by an individualized fitness assessment to measure how the injury might affect your ability to conduct the tasks at hand. In case of serious injury, you might be engaged with a Physical Evaluation Board that reviews cases to determine fitness for continued service.

It's important to speak with your commanding officer or medical personnel, who can provide more specific and relevant advice about the exact protocol in your particular case. Their guidance would be tailored to your individual circumstances, including the nature of your role and the details of your injury.

While military deployment is delayed, keep in mind that this might not be a setback for your college plans. Many colleges understand the circumstances surrounding military service, and you could possibly revisit your college plans during your recovery period. It would be wise to connect with a college counselor or admission's office to discuss your situation and to ask about possible deferment policies or flexible educational paths for potential students serving in the military.
