Concern about out of state tuition for University of Wisconsin

I've been doing some research about the University of Wisconsin and it seems like a pretty good fit for me. The only thing that concerns me is the out of state tuition. Can anyone give me an idea about how much it is? Also, are there any scholarships available for out of state students that could possibly help reduce the cost?

The cost of attendance (COA) for an out-of-state student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (UW-Madison) typically includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and personal and travel expenses. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the estimated COA for an out-of-state student is about $61,100, with tuition and fees making up about $42,100 of that.

As for scholarships, UW-Madison does offer a variety of opportunities to help offset the cost of attendance. The school provides both need-based and merit-based financial aid. There are also multiple scholarship opportunities specifically for out-of-state students. For instance, the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarship Programs are merit-based programs for non-resident students, offering substantial annual awards that significantly reduce tuition costs.

In addition to institution-specific aid, it's always a good idea to look at external scholarships to supplement your funding options. External scholarships won't reduce your tuition per se, but they can potentially provide funds to help cover your other expenses.

Keep in mind, however, that financial aid processes can be complex and the offers can vary greatly based on your own personal circumstances, so it's always best to reach out to UW-Madison's financial aid office for the most accurate and personalized information. Using an online tool, such as the school's net price calculator (https://app.meadowfi.com/wisconsin), can also give you a more detailed estimation of your potential expenses and aid options.

So in short, while the out-of-state tuition at UW-Madison may be higher than in-state, there are definitely resources and opportunities available to help make it more manageable.
