Decatur Colleges

Hey y'all! My family lives in Decatur, GA, and I'm considering staying close to home for college. Can anyone suggest any decent colleges in or near Decatur? I'm open to community colleges as well as four-year institutes!

Hello there! Decatur, Georgia is in a great location for higher education options, with several excellent institutions either in the city or within a short commute.

Firstly, in the heart of Decatur, you have Agnes Scott College. It's a private liberal arts women's college known for its rigorous academic programs. While it is a women's college, it does offer coed graduate programs.

Just a few miles west in Atlanta, there are several large universities. These include Georgia State University, which is a major public research university with a broad array of programs, and Emory University, which is a top-ranked private research university noted for its programs in business, nursing, and public health among others.

There's also Georgia Tech, another well-respected institution located in Atlanta, and it's especially renowned for its engineering and computer sciences programs.

As for Community Colleges, the Georgia Piedmont Technical College is a great two-year institution located just to the east in Clarkston. This college offers a multitude of associate degrees and certificate programs in areas ranging from business and computer technology, to health sciences, and technical studies.

Lastly, keep in mind that Atlanta is home to a number of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) such as Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University. If you are interested in attending an HBCU, these are all great options within a short distance from Decatur.

Naturally, I'd encourage you to visit these campuses (if possible) to get a sense of what might fit best for you. While all these institutions are nearby, they each have unique campus cultures and academic strengths. Best of luck in your college search!
