What's CU Boulder's out-of-state tuition like?

Hey folks! I'm a high school junior living outside of Colorado, and I'm considering applying to CU Boulder. However, as with most out-of-state schools, I'm a little worried about the tuition. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find reliable information about this? Thanks!

Absolutely, you're correct in recognizing that out-of-state tuition can often be significantly higher than in-state. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the University of Colorado Boulder's (CU Boulder) out-of-state tuition for undergraduate students is around $43,624, not including room, board, and other additional fees, like books and personal expenses.

Keep in mind that these numbers can vary depending on factors like your housing plan and meal plan. I would suggest that you use the CU Boulder's Net Price Calculator (https://ofa.colorado.edu/NetPriceCalculator/) to estimate your cost of attending. This tool will take into account your own family’s income, so you can see what financial aid you might be eligible for at CU Boulder.

Remember, it's not just the sticker price you should look at but the actual cost after taking into account the financial aid package you might receive. While it may seem expensive at first glance, financial aid can often bring the cost down quite a bit. You may also want to consider scholarships, both those offered directly by CU Boulder and those from outside organizations, to help offset the costs.

Also, CU Boulder offers the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition rate to students who are residents of WICHE states. If you're from a WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education) state, you might be eligible for reduced out-of-state tuition. WICHE states include Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, and more.

You may want to check out if your state is included and if you qualify for the WUE tuition rate. Applying for the WUE tuition rate doesn't change your eligibility for financial aid.

As a final note, remember to start these research and application processes early. Scholarships and financial aid applications often require significant time and effort and have their own deadlines.
