Colleges in Danville, VA. Any thoughts?

I currently live in Danville, VA and I think I might want to stick around for college. Anybody have info about the local colleges here? What should I consider while looking at these colleges?

In Danville, VA, there are two main colleges - Averett University and Danville Community College.

Starting with Averett University, it's a four-year private institution offering a range of degree programs in fields such as Business Administration, Applied Science, and Criminal Justice, to mention a few. Averett's student-faculty ratio is 12:1, and this allows for more personalized attention in classroom settings. If you're looking for small class sizes and a close-knit community, Averett could be a good fit.

Danville Community College, on the other hand, is a two-year public institution that's part of the Virginia Community College System. It offers several Associate degree programs, technical studies, and career studies certificates. Community colleges like DCC offer lower tuition rates, and you could also have the option to later transfer to a four-year college.

When looking at these schools, consider what's important for you in terms of academics and overall college experience. You might want to ask yourself these questions. What are your career goals, and do these colleges offer programs that align with these goals? Do you prefer smaller or larger class sizes? Are there extracurricular activities and clubs that match your interests? Also, think about the potential opportunities that the colleges could offer, like internships or networking events, which can be particularly beneficial for your future career path.

Finally, remember to visit each campus if you can. This will give you a feel of the culture and community, and can be a significant factor in deciding which college will be a good fit for you. Take advantage of any tours or open days that these colleges offer before making your decision.
