What's the ballpark GPA for making it into Yale?

Hey everyone, a bit stressed out junior here. I've been really aiming high, and Yale is one of those schools I'm dreaming about. Now I know it's super competitive and all, but does anyone have an idea about the minimum GPA they usually look for when considering applicants? Understandably, GPA isn't everything, but I just want to gauge where I stand. Thanks for the help!

Hi there! Absolutely, it's common to want to gauge where you stand for competitive schools like Yale.

If we examine common data, applicants who are admitted to Yale often have GPAs near the top of their class. While Yale does not officially state a required minimum GPA, they do suggest that most successful applicants rank in the top 10% of their class. A GPA of 3.9 to 4.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or an unweighted GPA of about 4.0 would be considered in the competitive range, considering Yale's rigorous admission process.

It's also crucial to remember that Yale - like many selective universities - practices a holistic admission process. This means they'll evaluate your application in context, considering course rigor, test scores (for the 2024-2025 application cycle, Yale is requiring all applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score), extracurricular involvement, and personal essays along with your GPA.

Keep in mind, though, a high GPA is not a guarantee of admission, and those with lower GPAs are not necessarily out of the running. All parts of your application contribute to the decision-making process.

Best of luck with your process! Keep striving for your goals.
