Hi guys, I'm a junior starting to plan for college. I'm thinking about staying fairly local and going to college in or near Joplin. Are there any colleges there with notable programs?
There are a couple of viable educational options in Joplin, Missouri.
Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is one of the more prominent institutions in the region. MSSU is known for its commitment to international studies and requires all its students to complete at least one international studies-based course. They focus on a different country or region every year and offer courses, events, and travel opportunities related to that area. They also have strong programs in Business Administration and Management, Elementary Education and Teaching, Criminal Justice/Safety Studies, and Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse.
On the other hand, there is also Ozark Christian College (OCC), which is a private institution. OCC is primarily focused on Bible Studies and related fields, preparing students for Christian service through vocational ministry, Christian leadership roles, or lay service. It's notable for having an intimate class size and a very dedicated faculty. But, given its focus, it's a great fit for students who are specifically interested in advancing their learning in Christian service or religion-oriented fields.
MSSU and OCC offer different types of education, so consider your academic and personal interests when deciding which school might be the best fit for you.
