UT Austin tuition per year - help?

Hello all, UT Austin is currently high up on my list of choices. The problem is, I'm not entirely sure how much their tuition is going to punch a hole in my wallet. Can someone help me out? How much is UT Austin tuition per year? Is it reasonable or am I looking at selling a kidney here?

Hello! The cost of tuition at UT Austin can range quite a bit depending on whether you're a resident of Texas or an out-of-state student. The pricing also varies by the different programs and hours enrolled. For the 2024-2025 academic year, undergraduate in-state tuition and fees at UT Austin are between $11,500 - $13,000 per year, while out-of-state tuition and fees are between $45,000 - $47,000 per year. So, if you're a Texan, it's pretty reasonable compared to other public universities. But if you're out-of-state, the price definitely goes up a notch.

Also don't forget that these are just the tuition rates, and don't include other costs like room and board, textbooks, personal expenses, and transportation, which can add a significant amount to your total cost of attendance.

Remember, financial aid can help offset these costs significantly. If you haven't done this already, you could use the school’s net price calculator (https://onestop.utexas.edu/managing-costs/cost-tuition-rates/cost-of-attendance/net-price-calculator/) to estimate how much financial aid you might qualify for and what your net costs would be, which can give you a clearer picture of how much you’d actually need to pay out of pocket.

Regarding your kidney joke, I appreciate your humorous way of expressing concern about college expenses. But keep in mind, many students secure scholarships, financial aid, and work-study positions that can greatly reduce the upfront costs of attending a university like UT Austin.

Finally, on a separate note, if you want tips on how to maximize your chances of acceptance at UT Austin, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle their application essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-ut-austin-essays/. Best of luck to you in your college admissions journey!
