What undergraduate majors does MIT offer?

Hi all, I'm a junior planning to apply to MIT. While I know they're top-notch for STEM, I'm wondering about the breadth of undergraduate majors they offer, particularly outside the STEM area. Could anyone provide some insights here? Thanks!

Absolutely, MIT offers a broad range of Bachelor's degree programs, not only in the STEM fields. While it is renowned for its science and technology programs, the university also provides an impressive array of programs in other areas.

Amongst the STEM majors, you will find Aerospace Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Nuclear Science and Engineering, and more.

But MIT is not solely about STEM. Outside the STEM programs, there are also interesting majors that you might consider. In the humanities and social sciences field, the undergraduate programs include Anthropology, Comparative Media Studies, Economics, History, Linguistics, Management Science, Political Science, and Science, Technology, and Society, to name a few.

For those interested in the arts, MIT offers undergraduate majors such as Theater Arts, and Music. These programs provide a unique fusion of creativity, arts, technology, and science fostering innovative learning.

An important fact about MIT's structure is that many programs are interdisciplinary, and it's common for students to major in one program and minor in another, or even pursue dual degrees. This can allow for a very individualized academic path that can combine STEM with your non-STEM interests.

Keep in mind to research each major thoroughly and check the course requirements to fully understand the nature of each program and see what resonates most with your academic aspirations and career goals. Remember, choosing a major is an important decision, but it's not binding—you can always switch your major if your interests evolve over time.
