Highest Ranked Military Branch?

So, I'm starting to research all my options post-graduation, and the military is something I'm deeply considering. Can someone educate me on what the 'highest' branch in the military is and what that means? Much obliged!

Each branch of the U.S. military – the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force – has its own unique role and mission, and they are all equally important to the nation's defense strategy. The notion of "highest" doesn't necessarily apply, as it could be interpreted in many ways depending on the specific context, whether that be prestige, size, budget, etc.

But If we're talking about seniority, the Army is the oldest branch established in 1775, followed by the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force, and most recently, the Space Force in 2019.

In terms of budget, the Department of Defense allocates funding annually to each branch. The Air Force typically receives the largest portion of the defense budget, followed by the Navy, Army, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard. However, the budget doesn't reflect the 'rank' of each branch but is determined based on strategic defense needs.

As for size, the Army is traditionally the largest branch in terms of active-duty personnel, followed by Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Space Force.

But again, each branch provides unique and invaluable contributions to national defense and has its own set of merits, so it's important to evaluate which branch aligns best with your personal interests, career goals, and aptitudes. For instance, if you have an interest in aviation, you might consider the Air Force, or if ship life and naval warfare attract you, the Navy could be a good fit. If serving in ground combat is your aspiration, you might consider the Army or Marine Corps. The Coast Guard focuses on maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and has a strong humanitarian mission. The Space Force is ideal for those interested in space operations like satellite handling and GPS coordination.

In the end, it's less about which is the "highest" branch and more about which branch would be the highest fit for you.
