What colleges could I potentially get into with a 1490 SAT score?

Hey guys! I got a 1490 on my SAT and I'm not sure how good or bad that is. Can someone please enlighten me on what colleges would potentially accept this score? It'll really help guide my application process.

A 1490 is a strong SAT score that places you in the 98th percentile nationally, meaning you scored higher than approximately 98% of test takers. Therefore, your score can make you a competitive applicant at many colleges.

But remember, the SAT score is only one part of your application. The colleges will also consider your grades, course rigor, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and personal essays.

However, here’s a snapshot of ranges at some selective schools (all data is for the middle 50% of admitted students):

1. Johns Hopkins University: 1450-1560

2. Northwestern University: 1470-1570

3. Dartmouth College:1440-1560

Additionally, liberal arts colleges like Amherst College (1420-1530), Wellesley College (1380-1530), and Bowdoin College (1360-1510) are within reach.

Keep in mind that these are just ranges and there are always students who score below and above this. And while your SAT score is competitive, admission to these institutions is not guaranteed due to their comprehensive review process and low acceptance rates.

Ultimately, I would advise choosing schools based on your academic interests and career goals, as well as factors like location, size, and culture. Determine your "fit" and dream schools, and then use your score (among other factors) to gauge your competitiveness for those institutions. Good luck with your applications!
