What is the average GPA of admitted students at U of M?

Hey guys, I've been stressing a bit about my grades and how they might stack up against other applicants to the University of Michigan. I know my GPA isn't everything, but it's a big part of the picture. Could anyone let me know what the typical GPA of an admitted student looks like? I'd be super appreciative.

The University of Michigan is fairly competitive and most of the students admitted typically have very strong academic records. While the university doesn’t publish an official average GPA for incoming freshman, multiple sources indicate that the average high school GPA of students accepted at the University of Michigan generally hovers around 3.9 (on an unweighted 4.0 scale).

However, keep in mind that the GPAs of admitted students can range significantly. Having a GPA below 3.9 doesn't necessarily mean your chances of admission are slim - other components of your application like your SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, and essay also play a large role. Similarly, having a GPA above 3.9 doesn't guarantee admission.

Also, the University of Michigan, like many universities, practices a holistic review process, meaning they look at all aspects of your application, not just your GPA. Strong essays, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation can all significantly boost your chances of admission even if your GPA is on the lower end. Conversely, if your GPA is high but other parts of your application are mediocre, your odds of acceptance could be hurt.

Remember, it's crucial to keep working hard in your classes and strive to maintain or improve your GPA as much as possible, but also to give equal attention to the other elements of your application as well.
