What's the Average GPA for BYU Admission?

I'm thinking about applying to Brigham Young University (BYU) next year and I'm wondering what sort of GPA they usually look for from their applicants. What are my chances if my GPA is around 3.5?

Brigham Young University is competitive, and the majority of successful applicants typically have strong academic records. As of their recent admissions, the average GPA of admitted students hovered around 3.85 on a 4.0 scale.

However, keep in mind that GPA is not the sole determinant of admission. The admissions committee looks at various other factors alongside your GPA, such as your course rigor, test scores, involvement in extracurricular activities, and application essays. In other words, having a 3.5 GPA does not automatically disqualify you for consideration.

In your case, with a GPA of 3.5, it would be ideal to compensate in other areas of your application if possible. Strong test scores, outstanding letters of recommendation, and impressive extracurricular activities with leadership roles can help balance a lower GPA. Also, ensure your application essays are compelling, as they provide an opportunity to showcase your personal qualities and potential to contribute to the BYU community.

And remember, these are just averages - they aren't hard cut-offs, so don't be discouraged! Striving to bring your GPA up in your remaining time in high school can also help your chances.
