In Alexandria, Louisiana, Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) is one choice to consider. It's a smaller school, typically serving about 5,000 students, and offers a variety of undergraduate degrees, ranging from business administration to biology.

The student-faculty ratio is 23:1, so students have a good opportunity to engage with their professors and receive personalized attention. The LSUA campus has a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere with a range of student organizations and events throughout the year.

Another option within a reasonable drive from Alexandria would be Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, which is approximately a 2-hour drive away. It's known for its engineering programs and other STEM fields in addition to the liberal arts.

All in all, it would be beneficial to visit these institutions, if possible, to get a feel for the campus life and academic culture to see if it aligns with what you're looking for in a college experience. Remember to take into account factors like academic offerings, size, location, student-to-teacher ratio, and student life.
