Average GPA for University of Michigan?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior and Michigan is one of my top choices. What's the average GPA for accepted students? I know I need to keep my grades up, but it would be helpful to have a target.

The University of Michigan tends to attract high-achieving students, so the average high school GPA of admitted freshmen is usually quite high. For the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor campus, the average high school GPA for incoming freshmen is typically around 3.9. This is based on a 4.0 scale, meaning that many students who are accepted have near-perfect, if not perfect, GPAs.

Keep in mind that these are averages and the range of GPAs will vary. The applicants with grades significantly below the average would typically demonstrate their strengths in other areas of their application, such as test scores (for those who chose to submit them), rigorous coursework, amazing essays, compelling extracurriculars, or a strong commitment to community service.

At competitive schools like Michigan, having a high GPA is important, but it's also just one factor among many. Exceptional talents, leadership skills, community involvement, and unique personal experiences/circumstances can also have a significant impact on admissions decisions. Also, remember the increasing importance of course rigor – colleges would rather see a slightly lower GPA with more challenging courses, than a higher GPA with easier ones. Keep focusing on your studies, but also remember to round out your application with these other factors!
