Feeling a bit anxious. I got a 720 on the PSAT, and I’m not sure if this is a solid score. Can anyone tell me if a score like this is considered good, or do I need to bump it up for a better chance at scholarships?
Congratulations on completing your PSAT! That's a great first step toward your college admissions journey. A 720 out of 1520 is a solid score, but when it comes to scholarships, particularly the National Merit Scholarships, it might not be quite high enough. Typically, National Merit Semifinalist cutoff scores vary by state and can range quite a bit. For example, highly competitive states like California or New York might have cutoffs well into the 1400s.
However, don't let this discourage you! Your PSAT score is just one part of your college readiness evaluation, and there are numerous other scholarships out there not based on PSAT scores. I encourage you to research local scholarships, community service-based awards, or scholarships based on personal attributes or your intended major. Your school counselor can be a fantastic resource for finding scholarships that are right for you. Keep in mind, improving your score is always possible too, so if you're a sophomore or junior, you've got time to prep and try again. Keep up the good work!
