Air Dominance: Which Military Branch?

I am fascinated by aircraft and am attracted to the idea of serving in a branch with lots of them. So, out of curiosity, which branch of the U.S. military has the most aircraft?

The U.S. military branch with the most aircraft is the United States Air Force (USAF). As you might expect from the name, the USAF's primary mission is aerial and space warfare, making it the branch with not just the most, but also the most varied types of aircraft. These range from fighter jets like the F-16 and the F-35 to heavy cargo planes such as the C-17 Globemaster III, to helicopters and unmanned aircraft.

However, it's important to note that the other branches of the military also maintain significant air components. For instance, the United States Navy has a significant aircraft fleet for operations at sea and the United States Army has a substantial number of helicopters for utility and attack missions. Additionally, the United States Marine Corps maintains a variety of types of aircraft to support their ground operations.

If you're interested in a career operating, maintaining, or planning military aircraft, you should think about not just the quantity but also the type of aircraft you'd be working within each branch, as well as the kind of missions and roles you're interested in.
