Why does it take so long to get PSAT scores back?

Hey everyone, just took the PSAT and the waiting is killing me! Does anyone here know why it takes several weeks to get the scores back? I mean, it’s a multiple-choice test right? Shouldn't it be quicker, or is there a more complex process behind the scenes that I'm not aware of?

Hi there! I completely understand the eagerness to get your PSAT scores. While it may seem like a straightforward multiple-choice test, the process behind score delivery is indeed more complex. After you take the test, the College Board needs to collect and scan all the answer sheets from students across the country. Moreover, they take time to ensure the scores are accurate and reflective of each student's performance – this includes checking for any possible errors or inconsistencies.

Additionally, the PSAT/NMSQT scores are used to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which requires a careful analysis of the percentile rankings for the selection index scores. This added layer of review can contribute to the wait time. Patience is key! Rest assured that once the scores are ready, you'll have a detailed report that can help guide your preparation for future standardized tests.
