Physical Demands of Different Military Branches

Hello guys, I'm thinking about joining the military after HS and I was wondering which branch is considered the most physically demanding to get into? Like which requires the highest fitness level? I'm also curious about what sort of physical training and exercise regimens they do - any insights would be really appreciated, thanks!

Hello, great to see that you're considering serving in the military after high school. It's a commendable decision! On average, the most physically demanding branch of the military is typically considered to be the U.S. Marine Corps. Their initial physical fitness test (PFT) includes pull-ups or push-ups, crunches or planking, and a 3-mile run. The standards to pass this test are quite high compared to the other branches.

The U.S. Army also has stringent physical requirements, especially with the introduction of the new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). This includes six events: a 3-repetition maximum deadlift, a standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, a sprint-drag-carry, leg tucks, and a 2-mile run. The ACFT requires a balance of strength, endurance, and agility.

These tests are typical of the physical training regimens used, which include a wide variety of resistance exercises, agility drills, and cardio-focused workouts like running and swimming. Please remember, each person's experience will vary, depending on their base of physical fitness and the specific job they're aiming for in the military. It's suggested that you reach out to recruiters from each branch you're interested in to get more detailed and personalized information.

Remember, the physical aspect is only one part of serving in the military and it's important to consider other factors like commitment length, job opportunities, and educational benefits when choosing a branch. Good luck with your decision!
