Do colleges look at PSAT scores similarly to SAT scores?

Quick Q: I got my PSAT score back and it's decent, but I'm starting to prep for the SAT and I’m curious. Do colleges view PSAT scores on the same level as SAT ones, or is it mainly just for practice and scholarships?

Hey there! Congrats on taking the PSAT — it's a great step in your prep for the SAT. To answer your question: Colleges do not use PSAT scores in the admissions process the way they do SAT scores. The PSAT serves primarily as practice for the SAT and as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. When you apply to colleges, your SAT scores (or ACT, if you take that) will be the official standardized test scores that admissions offices consider. So, while your PSAT scores are not sent to colleges as part of your application, the experience and feedback you gain from it can be very valuable in preparing for the actual SAT. Keep up the good work with your SAT prep, and use your PSAT score as a benchmark to help you study efficiently! Best of luck!
