Marines - Which Branch of the Military?

Hey community, I'm a junior trying to explore different paths post-high school, and the Marine Corps has my interest. But I'm uncertain - is the Marines a separate branch of the military, or is it grouped under something else? Thanks in advance!

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is indeed a separate branch of the U.S. military. While it is often grouped with the Department of the Navy for administrative and budget purposes, it operates independently in terms of function and mission. The Commandant of the Marine Corps. The USMC is one of the eight uniformed services of the United States alongside the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps. It's definitely a distinct institution within the United States Armed Forces. The Marines have a specific focus on amphibious operations and they're often the "first boots on the ground" during a conflict. They are known for their incredibly rigorous physical training and unwavering camaraderie.
