Hello folks, I’m in the lucky yet stressful position of deciding between Penn and Yale. I reckon both have their pros and cons. Anyone from Penn or Yale who can share their experiences?
Congrats on getting into both Penn and Yale, that's a huge achievement!
While both schools provide incredibly strong collegiate experiences, it might be helpful to consider a few points.
Firstly, the general atmosphere can differ significantly. Yale is often associated with a highly intellectual, somewhat creative community that values deep conversation and exploration of ideas, while Penn is known for its pre-professional, business-oriented environment. Of course, there's more to each campus than that and you'll find a mix of students wherever you go, but the overall tones tend to lean this way.
Secondly, consider your prospective major or field of interest. If you're interested in business, Penn's Wharton School is top-notch. Yale, on the other hand, consistently ranks highly for humanities fields such as English and History.
Location might also play a part in your decision. New Haven and Philadelphia offer very different experiences. Philadelphia, being a bigger city, might offer more in terms of internship opportunities and city life. New Haven, while smaller, boasts a close-knit community atmosphere.
Lastly, consider the residential college system at each school. Yale's residential college system is a defining feature of student life while Penn has a House system which, while offering a community, may not be as integral to the undergraduate experience.
Remember, it’s vital to choose based on your personal fit and where you think you will thrive most. Both are fantastic schools and you can't really make a "wrong" choice here!
