Hey guys, I've been targeting Stanford as one of my dream schools and I'm quite curious about the ACT scores. Does anybody know what the average ACT score is for students who are admitted? And do they value ACT much?
As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Stanford University is test-optional, meaning they do not require the submission of ACT or SAT scores for admissions consideration. However, if you choose to submit an ACT score, the middle 50% range for admitted students in previous years was typically between 33 and 36.
Even when providing scores, keep in mind that it's only one facet of your application. Stanford, like many selective universities, conducts a holistic review process where they consider various elements from the strength of your high school courses, grade trends, teacher and counselor recommendations, extracurricular involvement, leadership roles, and your personal essays. This allows them to understand you better as an individual and a learner.
Remember, while standardized test scores can enhance your application, they do not solely determine your admissions outcome. If your score falls below the average, your other application components can still showcase your potential and fit for Stanford. Conversely, even if your ACT score is in the quoted range (or higher), it doesn't guarantee admission, as all aspects of your application need to be competitive.
Do your best. Always put forward the most compelling application that you feel showcases your abilities, experiences, and future potential, whether that includes an ACT score or not.
