UO vs OSU - Which Should I Choose?

Hello, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I’ve been looking at both UO and OSU and I can’t make a clear choice just yet. Can anyone share some insights or experiences to help tip the scales? How did you decide if you had multiple options?

From my understanding, both the University of Oregon (UO) and Oregon State University (OSU) offer great opportunity for success, and the choice between the two will largely depend on your individual goals, major of interest, campus culture preference, and personal circumstances.

Academically, both schools have their strengths. If you're into engineering, computer science, or business, you might want to consider OSU, which has a strong reputation in these areas. On the other hand, UO is known for its programs in architecture, journalism, and the sciences, especially biology.

On the cultural front, both campuses have vibrant student lives. UO is usually seen as having a more liberal, artsy, and relaxed campus vibe, located in a smaller college town (Eugene). OSU, in comparison, located in Corvallis, has a lot of opportunities for outdoor activities which are popular among students, and it tends to attract students with a more pre-professional orientation.

Sports also play a large role at both campuses, with each having a range of intercollegiate, intramural, and club sports. UO's Ducks and OSU's Beavers have a well-known state rivalry, so considering your affinity for particular sports or teams can also be a part of your decision.

I'd recommend visiting both campuses, if possible, to get a hands-on feel for the environment, the people, and the sense of the place. Talk to students, visit the departments you're interested in, and think about where you can see yourself thriving. Remember, the goal is to find a place where you'll be happiest pursuing your studies and extracurricular activities for the next four years of your academic journey.

It's not an easy decision, but don't worry, you have amazing options to choose from! Take your time, gather as much information as you can from a variety of sources, and trust your instincts. Good luck with your decision!
