What are some reputable colleges in Brevard, NC?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior thinking about colleges. I live near Brevard, NC and was thinking of staying in state. Can anyone suggest some good colleges in or around Brevard? What are their specialties or strong departments?

Brevard, North Carolina, is a great location for potential students due to its proximity to many quality colleges and universities. The actual city of Brevard is home to Brevard College, a small liberal arts college that offers a variety of majors in arts and sciences, however, they are particularly known for their strong environmental studies and wilderness leadership and experiential education programs. This is due to its location in the Blue Ridge Mountains with easy access to Pisgah National Forest, making it an ideal college for students interested in outdoor experiences and environmental education.

Just short drives away from Brevard, in Asheville, there are two more options—University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA) and Warren Wilson College. UNCA, part of the University of North Carolina system, is a nationally recognized public liberal arts university that offers strong programs in the humanities, as well as in natural and social sciences. The school is particularly known for its creative writing, environmental studies, and biology programs.

Warren Wilson College, on the other hand, is a private liberal arts college known for its unique triad model of academics, work, and service. All students complete community service as part of their education, and the college is well-respected for some of its unique majors, like environmental studies and creative writing.

Whilst not in Brevard, a bit further east are University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the esteemed Duke University in Durham. The latter is especially renowned for disciplines such as biomedical engineering, public policy, and law.

All of these colleges possess different strengths, and I would recommend that you research each of them in further depth to find the best choice depending on your personal interests and career aspirations.
