What GPA do I need for UT Austin?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior interested in applying to the University of Texas at Austin next year. Can anyone shed some light on what kind of GPA they're looking for? I know it's a competitive school, so any insight would help a lot!

As a school with high selectivity, the University of Texas at Austin looks for high-achieving students. While they state there's no absolute cut-off for GPA, the average GPA range for admitted students in recent years is around a 3.85 on a 4.00 scale.

However, keep in mind that GPA isn't the only variable UT Austin considers. The university has a holistic admissions process, which means they're looking at the whole applicant, not just their grades. They will also consider your leadership roles, extracurriculars, employment, and summer activities, as well as your essays and short answers.

While a solid GPA can certainly strengthen your application, the strength of your high school classes is also important. In fact, the average admitted student has taken a very rigorous curriculum, including AP or IB classes. UT Austin wants to ensure that you're prepared for the academic rigors of college, so challenging courses can definitely help demonstrate that.

To sum up, aim for a high GPA (ideally 3.85 or above), but also pay attention to other key components of your application. Good luck!
