Hey everyone, I've been looking at UT Austin a lot recently and it's definitely one of my top choices. Does anyone have a general idea of what GPA they usually look for? I know they don't have a 'minimum' as per se but I just want to know what the average accepted student's GPA is, if possible. Thanks!
UT Austin, being a competitive school, typically looks for high GPAs. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at The University of Texas at Austin was around 3.83 on a 4.0 scale in recent years. Do keep in mind that students also need to demonstrate strong involvement in extracurricular activities, good scores on standardized tests (for the 2024-2025 application cycle, UT Austin is requiring all applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score), and compelling personal essays.
Admissions can vary by major, as some colleges or programs within UT Austin can be more competitive than others. For instance, the School of Engineering may require an even higher GPA. It's also important to note that admissions at UT Austin is holistic, meaning the academic profile is just one aspect of review. While you can't control the GPA you've already earned to a great extent, you can focus on crafting an excellent personal statement. This will give admissions officers insight into your perspectives, experiences, goals, and how you might contribute to the UT Austin community. Always ensure that every part of your application is as strong as it can be!
