What's the Demographic Breakdown at MSU?

Hey guys! I'm seriously considering applying to Michigan State University and I'd like to know about its demographic makeup. I understand that diversity extends beyond just race and ethnicity but those are primary factors I'm curious about. Can anyone offer some insight on this? Also, what's the vibe like there in terms of inclusivity? Thanks so much!

Response: Hello! Glad to see you're looking into Michigan State University (MSU). In terms of race and ethnicity, MSU is relatively diverse for a midwestern institution. As of the most recent data, the student population is about 66% White, 7% African American, 5% Asian, 5% Hispanic, and around 3% International. The remaining percentage includes students identifying as two or more races, Native American, or race unknown.

Diversity is a vital part of campus culture at MSU, and they strive to build an inclusive environment. There are numerous student organizations and programs aimed at fostering an inclusive campus. Examples include the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives and cultural and identity-related student clubs. These resources play a significant role in ensuring all students feel welcome on campus.

However, like all campuses, the "vibe" of inclusivity is subjective and can vary from student to student. Although resources are in place to promote diversity and inclusiveness, it's always a good idea to interact with the current students, participate in virtual tours, and attend student-led webinars (if available) to get a real feel of the campus culture. Doing so can provide you with firsthand accounts and deeper insights!

Do keep in mind that demographic percentages may fluctuate slightly year to year. It's always recommended to check the most recent data on the official school website for the most accurate and updated demographic information. Best of luck as you explore your options!
