I'm currently a junior stressing a bit over my SAT scores. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of SAT score I should aim for if I want a solid chance at UC Berkeley. I'd appreciate any advice!
While up until recently SAT scores played a significant role in the admissions process at UC Berkeley, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, all University of California schools, including UC Berkeley, have switched to a test-blind policy. This means that SAT or ACT scores are not considered at all, regardless of how high they are.
This does not make the admissions process easier, though. UC Berkeley still weighs heavily on your high school GPA, your course rigor - the AP and IB classes you've taken and the grades you've gotten in them - and your essays, extracurricular activities, and personal achievements.
In your essays, it could be beneficial for you to highlight how you've developed a 'spike' or high level of accomplishment in a particular field, as top colleges tend to favor students with these in-depth achievements over 'well-rounded' applicants. Your extracurriculars and personal achievements represent your character, dedication, and leadership capabilities, so spend time making these shine in your application.
To truly strengthen your application for UC Berkeley, continue challenging yourself acadically and getting involved in meaningful and leadership-oriented activities. And most importantly, make sure your application essays are compelling and reflective of your journey, perspectives, and growth.
