Hey guys, I've set my sights on Caltech and I'm just wondering about the SAT requirements they have. Anybody here who can shed some light on this?
Hello! For the 2024-2025 application cycle, Caltech has reinstated its requirement for all applicants to submit either an SAT or ACT score. Previously, Caltech had adopted a test-optional policy due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they have transitioned back to their pre-pandemic standards.
Caltech doesn't explicitly specify a "minimum" SAT score for admission, but it is one of the most competitive schools in the US, so a high score would be beneficial. I'd suggest aiming for at least the 75th percentile of admitted student scores to consider yourself a competitive candidate. For reference, in the past few years, the middle 50% SAT range for admitted students at Caltech was between 1530 and 1580.
Please also keep in mind that while the SAT scores play a significant role, Caltech’s admissions process is holistic. They also strongly consider your coursework, grades, extracurriculars, essays, and letters of recommendation. Make sure you present all these aspects in the best possible light as well. Best of luck in your application process!
