Changing admission plan on Common App?

I've applied Early Decision but I'm having second thoughts and might want to switch to Regular Decision. Is it possible to change your admission plan after submitting your Common App, and how would I do that? Has anyone here had experience with this situation?

Hello there! Certainly, changing your mind about your application decision plan can be quite stressful, but rest assured, there are steps you can take. It is often possible to change from Early Decision (ED) to Regular Decision (RD), but this change is not handled through the Common App itself after your application has been submitted. Instead, you will need to contact the admissions office of the college in question directly and as soon as possible. The school’s policy on this will vary, but most colleges understand that students' situations and decisions can evolve. Explain your situation politely and clearly. As an example, a student last year simply emailed the admissions office explaining they needed to compare financial aid offers and wished to be switched to RD; the college accommodated this request. If you decide to follow through with this change, be sure to also verify if there are any additional steps with your high school guidance counselor, as they may need to adjust their documentation as well. Be sure to act quickly and communicate clearly to give the admissions team time to make this adjustment before decisions are made.
