Inquiring about Public Colleges in Chicago

Hey y'all, native Chicagoan here. I'm beginning my college search and I am primarily looking at public colleges in my home city. Anyone knows of some great public colleges in Chicago, Illinois? What's their reputation? Any insights would be much appreciated!

Hello!

When you're talking about public universities in Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) definitely stands out. As the largest and only public research university in the city, UIC offers a wide range of disciplines. It is particularly recognized for its strong programs in health sciences, including Nursing and Pharmacy. In fact, its College of Pharmacy ranks among the top 20 in the nation.

Another option you might consider is the Chicago State University (CSU), located on the south side of the city. CSU has a strong reputation in education and health sciences, and as a smaller university, it offers distinctly intimate class sizes and a supportive community.

There's also Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), which is a smaller, less research-intensive university. NEIU prides itself on providing a quality, affordable education, and it is particularly known for its College of Education.

Remember, each school has a different campus vibe, set of academic programs, and financial aid opportunities, so I recommend visiting each campus, either in-person or virtually, to get a feel for what might be the best fit for you. Don't forget to check out their course offerings and connect with current students or alumni for firsthand insights. Good luck on your college search!
