Hey everyone, I'm trying to plan out my grades for senior year and I'm curious about how UCF calculates GPAs. Is it on the 4.0 scale or is it different? Can someone shed some light on it?
Sure thing, I'd be happy to clarify this for you! The University of Central Florida (UCF) calculates applicants' high school GPAs using a weighted system.
UCF does use a 4.0 scale for GPA evaluation, but they consider both your academic core GPA, which includes English, Math, Science, Social Science, and foreign language courses, as well as your overall GPA.
The weighting works in the following way:
- Regular courses are taken at face value with an A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F=0.
- Honors classes and dual enrollment courses have an additional 0.5 weight, so an A=4.5, B=3.5, etc.
- Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), and Cambridge A-Level course grades are increased by 1 point, so an A=5, B=4, etc.
Do note that the grades should be unrounded. For example, if your overall GPA is a 3.76, then that's what it should be considered as, not rounded up to 3.8.
However, I should mention that while GPA is a significant factor in admissions, UCF also looks at other factors like your SAT or ACT scores, strength of your high school curriculum, and your personal statement among others. So it's important to focus on all parts of your application. Good luck!
