Knowing Berkeley inside and out

Hey all, I'm super interested in applying to UC Berkeley but I've never had the chance to visit. I'm aware of its academic reputation, but what about the location? How's the town? Is there anything interesting around, places to hang out, etc? I'd love to hear your experiences with the place!
