Is the Coast Guard considered part of the military?

Hey y'all, I'm kinda torn between college and serving my country. I've been considering different military branches, specifically the Coast Guard. But, I'm a little confused, 'cause someone told me it's not really a 'military' branch. Can someone clarify this for me? Is Coast Guard a part of the US Military?

Yes, the Coast Guard is indeed part of the U.S. military. It is categorized as one of the six branches of the Armed Forces, alongside the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Marines.

Although it's unique in its duties compared to the other branches, its main role is to safeguard the United States' maritime interests and provide security. This can encompass a wide range of tasks like responding to marine emergencies, enforcing maritime law, or even carrying out environmental protection operations.

Members of the Coast Guard can also be deployed overseas for combat and non-combat missions, just like other branches of the military. So rest assured, choosing the Coast Guard is absolutely a way to serve your country in a military capacity!
