Question about the new branches in US Military

Hey folks! Just curious, but I keep hearing about this new branch in the military called the 'Space Force'. Can anyone tell me more about it? Is it actually a part of the military, and what's it all about?

Hello! Great question. The United States Space Force (USSF) is indeed a relatively new branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. It was officially established on December 20, 2019, with the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. The USSF is the first new military service since the U.S. Air Force was established in 1947.

The USSF's mission is to "organize, train, and equip space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and provide space capabilities to the joint force." This means that they're focused on operations related to space and have responsibilities such as missile warning, satellite operations, space control and space support.

And yes, the Space Force is entirely part of the U.S. military. If you're interested in joining, the process is similar to the other branches, with similar eligibility criteria, boot camp, and officer training programs. However, the specific training and roles within the Space Force are unique due to the space-focused mission of the USSF. We'd recommend exploring their official website or contacting a recruiter for more detailed information if you're interested in potentially joining or just learning more.
