Confused about 20 percent of 94?

Okay, math isn't really my thing, so bear with me. I have an assignment that's worth 20% of my overall mark, which is currently 94. How does that work? What happens if I do well vs. if I do poorly?

So, the assignment that represents 20% of your total grade can definitely alter your current score of 94, depending on the grade you obtain on this assignment.

To give you an example, suppose you scored perfect, a 100 on the assignment. Since it's worth 20% of the total grade, you need to calculate the weighted score. In that case, you would multiple 100 by 0.20 (which equals 20). This is then added onto the remaining 80% from your other grades, so you would multiply your current grade of 94 by 0.80 (which equals 75.2). Summing both values would give you a new overall grade: 20 + 75.2 = 95.2.

On the other hand, let's assume you did poorly and scored a 60 on the assignment. Applying the same calculation, but replacing 100 by 60, the weighted score for the assignment would be 600.20 = 12. Summing this with the 80% of your current grade (75.2 from the calculation above), the new overall grade decreases to: 12 + 75.2 = 87.2.

In short, the grade you get on this assignment will be factored into 20% of your overall grade. The rest of your grade comes 80% from your other work (the current grade of 94). High scores on the assignment will boost your final grade, while low scores will pull it down.
