U of H vs UT: Opinions?

Hi there, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm torn between U of H and UT and I don't know which one would be a better fit. Can anyone share their impressions, experiences or knowledge about these two? I'm planning to major in Computer Science if that helps.

Both the University of Houston (U of H) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT) offer solid Computer Science programs, but there are notable differences to consider, primarily related to the specificity of each program, the overall university culture, location, and post-graduation opportunities.

Starting with UT, it's important to note that UT Austin has a top-ranked Computer Science department that benefits from the tech culture of Austin, often dubbed the "Silicon Hills." There's a wealth of opportunities for internships and jobs in local tech startups and established companies. UT Austin also strongly emphasizes research opportunities, which might be appealing if you're interested in more theoretical aspects of Computer Science or considering going to graduate school.

U of H, on the other hand, offers a more tailored approach in its teaching of Computer Science. Students at U of H have the opportunity to choose concentrations within the CS program, allowing for more focus on specific areas, which might be beneficial if you already know you have an interest in a certain sub-field. As for location, U of H is in Houston, one of the most populous cities in the U.S., meaning opportunities for internships and jobs are abundant, particularly in industries like energy, healthcare, and aerospace.

There are also some differences in campus life and culture. UT Austin is a larger school, which typically has more of a 'big school' atmosphere, more competitive sports programs, and a more prominent Greek life, but might also feel more overwhelming. U of H is more commuter-friendly and has a more diverse student population. It also has a smaller student body, which might offer a more individualized college experience.

Ultimately, the decision should be based on what's most important for your own educational experience and career goals. Visiting both campuses, researching more about the faculty and courses, examining extracurricular activities, and reaching out to current students or alumni might provide additional insight.
