UMICH vs Ohio: A toss-up?

I'm torn between UMICH and Ohio State. Anybody made the same choice? What were your deciding factors? Maybe it's about the programs, or campus vibes, or something else entirely?

Both UMich and Ohio State are excellent schools, and the right choice will depend on your personal circumstances and preferences.

First, consider your desired major or program. If you're interested in a field where one university has a particularly strong program, this might be a deciding factor. For instance, UMich's Ross School of Business and School of Engineering are highly regarded. Similarly, Ohio State has strong programs in Business and Education.

Then, look at the campus vibe. UMich and Ohio State have very different campus environments. UMich offers a college-town feel with its campus in Ann Arbor, which is frequently ranked among the best college towns in the US. Ohio State, on the other hand, is located in Columbus, which is the state capital and a large city. Would you prefer a bustling city environment or a more traditional college-town experience?

Financial considerations might also influence your decision. Both schools offer need-based financial aid, but details and amounts vary. Be sure to examine your financial aid offers and consider the cost of attendance. Even though Ohio State's out-of-state tuition may be a bit cheaper, don't forget to factor in things like room and board, books, and other expenses when making your decision.

Finally, consider additional factors like opportunities for involvement in clubs and organizations, availability of internships in your field, athletic culture, and size of the school. Both schools have a strong athletic culture, especially in football, so you could also think about which team you'd rather cheer for during game days 😉

Remember, you're going to spend at least four years at university, so choose the one where you feel you'll be the happiest and most successful. Chat with current students or alumni, if possible, to gain more insight into each school's culture and offerings. And keep in mind that your education is what you make of it - you can find opportunities and success at both universities. Good luck with your decision!
