What's a strong PSAT score for a 9th grader?

Hello fellow stressed high schoolers! I just took the PSAT as a freshman and am wondering, what's considered a good PSAT score for someone in 9th grade? I know it's early in the game but I want to set some goals for myself.

Hey there! It's fantastic to see you setting goals early on. For a 9th grader, PSAT scores can vary quite a bit due to the range of maturity and academic experience. That said, a strong score could be considered in the range where you're scoring better than 50% of sophomores taking the test, since it's officially geared towards 10th graders. This would roughly translate to a score of 920 or above. However, the most important thing is to look at the score as a baseline for your future growth. There's plenty of time to build on your score, especially as you haven't covered all the content that's tested. An upward trajectory over the next few years is what you should aim for. Remember, the PSAT becomes more relevant in your junior year when it counts towards National Merit Scholarship qualification. Until then, use it as a tool to guide your preparation for the SAT. Keep up the hard work, and those numbers will surely climb!
