How big is the University of Alabama?

Hi! I’m looking into the University of Alabama and I’d like to have a better idea of its size. I’m not just talking about the student population, but also about the campus itself. Can anyone who’s been there or goes there give me an idea of how big it feels? Thanks in advance!

At the University of Alabama (UA), the campus and student body are both pretty sizable. Let's break down each part.

First, let's consider the student population. As of recent statistics, UA has an approximate undergraduate enrollment of over 30,000 students. When we include graduate students, that number jumps to about 39,600.

Now, regarding campus size, the University of Alabama is set on about 1,400 acres of land, making it one of the most substantial campuses in the country. Now, does that mean you'll be walking miles to get to each class? Not necessarily! Core academic, residential, and recreational facilities are all relatively centrally located, which can make the campus feel a bit smaller and more manageable on a day-to-day basis. However, the larger campus size provides plenty of green spaces and quiet areas where you can study or hang out when the weather is nice.

Even though the campus is rather large, transportation options exist to make navigating from one end to the other easier. The university offers a campus bus service named the Crimson Ride, which can help in getting around in a timely manner.

That said, it's also important to consider the size of Tuscaloosa, the city in which the University of Alabama is located. Tuscaloosa has a population of about 114,000, providing a balance of a small-town feel with some city amenities, which include plenty of college-oriented services and social opportunities.

You can get a feel for what campus is like by visiting in-person (https://visit.ua.edu/visiting-campus/) or virtually (available on the University of Alabama website). I highly recommend getting a sense for yourself about what campus will be like!

Hope this gives you a clear image of the size and feel of UA!
