Considering Colgate and Boston U - any advice?

I'm stuck between applying to Colgate Uni and Boston University. They both seem great but I can't decide. Can anyone share their experiences or advice? Which one offers better opportunities for students?

Sure, I can offer some generalized perspectives on both universities, but remember your decision should also consider your major and personal fit.

Starting with Boston University (BU), here, you'll get the quintessential big-city college experience. The campus is not typical, as it is integrated into the city of Boston. This means easy access to cultural and professional opportunities in one of the country's most historic cities. BU is recognized for strong programs like communications and journalism, as well as programs in the sciences and engineering. International relations is also quite popular there. The student life is vibrant, with clubs, events, and resources that cater to nearly every interest. BU is also larger, with over 17,000 undergraduates, so there's a diversity of people and majors.

Colgate University, on the other hand, provides a more traditional, small liberal arts college experience. It is located in Hamilton, NY, a small town, and it's predominantly residential, meaning many students live on campus all four years. The campus is picturesque, the lawns are sprawling, and there's a very collegiate vibe. The small size (around 3000 students) fosters a tight-knit community atmosphere. Colgate is known for its programs in the social sciences, history, and the biological and physical sciences. It also has a strong focus on student-faculty interaction and undergraduate research.

Both universities have strong alumni networks and are well versed in providing students with solid opportunities for internships and careers post-graduation.

In the end, both universities are prestigious and offer quality education, but your choice may hinge more on what kind of college experience you're looking for – urban and large, or small-town and small student to faculty ratio. Also, consider your intended area of study when making your decision, as program strengths can vary between the two schools.
