Thoughts on Studying in Gary, Indiana?

Hey everyone, Gary, Indiana is on my list of possible college locations. I'm interested in Business Studies, so what are your thoughts about the courses and college environment in Gary?

First, good on you for considering location as a significant factor in your college decision—it definitely plays a major role in your overall college experience!

When it comes to the city of Gary itself, it's worth noting that it's a smaller city with a slower pace which may appeal to someone looking for a quieter college experience. However, it doesn't lack in natural beauty. Gary is situated near the Indiana Dunes National Park, an area that offers plenty to explore: hiking, bird watching, and even swimming in Lake Michigan during the warmer months.

In terms of education, Indiana University Northwest (IUN) is the most popular college in Gary and does offer a Business program. Their School of Business and Economics is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which ensures high-quality faculty, relevant curricula, and effective educational and career support. So, academically, it could indeed be a good fit for your interest in Business Studies.

However, college selection is about more than just academics. It's important to consider whether you would be comfortable with the campus environment, student body size, extracurricular offerings, and the lifestyle at IUN or any other colleges in the area.

Additionally, you should also consider future career opportunities. Look into the school's business internship programs and relationships with local businesses in the Gary area. Strong local ties can lead to valuable internships, which could pave the way for job offers after graduation.

Lastly, ideal college experiences differ greatly among individuals, so what fits one person may not fit another. I recommend visiting Gary and the college campus (if possible) before making your final decision. That way, you can gain a personal understanding of the environment and see if it aligns with your preferences. Best of luck!
