How does Emory calculate GPA?

Hey all, does any Emory student (or alum) know how they weight their GPA? Do they use a 4.0 scale, or do they have a different method? Is there a specific GPA calculator for Emory students?

Emory University, like other institutions, uses the 4.0 GPA scale. That being said, they look at unweighted GPAs and don't use a specific weight system for AP or IB courses. This makes your transcript assessment more uniform, as a 4.0 signifies straight A's, irrespective of the rigor of the classes.

However, Emory University takes into account the level of rigor in your course load. When reviewing your application, the admissions department will consider your academic performance in the context of the opportunities offered to you. Extensive enrollment in honors, AP, IB, and/or dual-enrollment courses will be evaluated positively if such courses are available at your school.

As far as I know, Emory University does not provide a specific GPA calculator for its students. To calculate your GPA, you can use a universal GPA calculator found online. Simply input your grades, and the calculator will provide you with an unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Remember, in the end, your GPA is only one part of your whole application. Emory University admissions will review your application holistically, taking into account not only your academic achievements but also your extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and personal essays. They are interested in understanding who you are as a person and how you might contribute to the university community.
