Information on Duke's Out-of-State Tuition

Hi, I'm currently a junior and I'm really interested in Duke! I was wondering though, what's the out-of-state tuition like? I would appreciate any information, thank you in advance!

Hello! It's great that you're interested in Duke. When it comes to tuition, all students, both in-state and out-of-state, pay the same costs. That's because Duke is a private institution, and unlike public colleges, it doesn't have different rates for students based on their residency.

According to recent statistics, the tuition and fees at Duke University for the 2024-2025 academic year are approximately $69,140. This figure doesn't include the costs of housing, meals, utilities, or other personal expenses. If you add those in, the total cost of attendance can range between around $93,330 and $94,066 per year.

Keep in mind that these figures can certainly seem daunting, but financial aid and scholarships can significantly decrease these costs. Duke University meets 100% demonstrated need for all admitted students, domestic and international alike. Consequently, the amount that you personally would pay could be much less depending on your family's financial situation. You might find it useful to use Duke's Net Price Calculator to get a better sense of what your family might be expected to contribute.

In addition, certain scholarships are worth checking out. Examples at Duke are the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program, the Karsh International Scholars Program, and the David M. Rubenstein Scholars Program, among others. Many of these can cover a sizable chunk (if not all) of your tuition plus other educational and personal costs. Remember that scholarships often have additional application requirements and deadlines, so prepare ahead!

Take care to weigh all these factors when considering Duke or indeed any other school. Don't let the 'sticker price' scare you off initially, because the actual cost after financial aid may be much more affordable than you would first believe. Best of luck in your college application journey!
