UNC Chapel Hill Admission GPA?

I'm really interested in UNC Chapel Hill, does anyone have any idea what GPA I need to stand a competitive chance?

To be considered competitive for admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill), a solid GPA is important. According to the latest published data, the average high school GPA of students admitted to UNC Chapel Hill was around 4.70 on a weighted scale.

For context, weighted GPAs are calculated on a varying scale that can go up to 5.0 (or even higher in some cases) due to honors and Advanced Placement classes. These classes are usually graded on a 5.0 scale and therefore when factored into the overall GPA, have a higher weighting.

While this doesn't necessarily mean you need a 4.70 GPA to be admitted, high grades are rather significant in the evaluation process. It's important not to forget though, that colleges look at more than just your GPA. They also review your SAT/ACT scores (if submitted), class rigor, essays, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, and other supporting documents to make a holistic assessment.

If your GPA is on the lower end, demonstrating strengths in other areas of your application can really help balance the scale. This might include showcasing strong leadership qualities, passion in extracurricular activities, or exceptional essay writing skills.

Remember that the standards can be slightly different for in-state versus out-of-state applicants, with it generally being more competitive for out-of-state students. So, your residency status could also factor into this.

In any case, the best you can do is give your all-around best efforts in every area of your application. UNC Chapel Hill is a fantastic school—best of luck with your application!
