On the Common App, what does 'final' signify when reporting grades?

When I'm inserting my grades into the Common App, I see an option to mark them as 'final'. Does this just mean the final grade for the course, or is it referring to something else? Just want to make sure I’m getting this right!

Hey there! Glad to see you're carefully filling out your Common App. Yes, marking a grade as 'final' does indeed mean that it's the final grade you received for the course after it has been completed. It's the grade that appears on your official high school transcript for the entirety of the course, not a mid-term or progress report grade. If your school divides the year into semesters, it's the final grade for each respective semester. If your school's schedule is based on full-year courses, then it's the grade that you receive at the end of the academic year. Don't forget that you should report all of your grades exactly as they appear on your transcript to ensure consistency and accuracy. Good luck with your application!
