Purdue vs IU Showdown

Hey folks, it's decision time and I'm torn between Purdue and IU. I'm primarily interested in Computer Science. Apart from academics, could someone share their insights on social life, campus culture, etc. at these two universities? It's Purdue vs IU! Thanks in advance.

Sure, glad to share some insights about both schools for you!

In terms of computer science, Purdue is recognized for its high-rated program and has a stronger reputation in the field. But both schools have good resources for students, like career fairs and research opportunities.

Campus culture-wise, Purdue and IU differ in a few ways. Purdue is known for its tight-knit community feel, and students often describe the culture as collaborative and supportive. There's a strong emphasis on STEM at Purdue, which can be seen in the number of engineering and technology-related clubs and events. Plus, its location in West Lafayette provides a traditional, small-town college experience.

Indiana University, on the other hand, has a diverse academic landscape with a vibrant arts scene in addition to its strong business and informatics programs. The culture at IU tends to be more eclectic and has a larger Greek life presence. The campus is located in Bloomington, which is a bit larger and offers more off-campus activities compared to West Lafayette.

Social life at both schools is active. At Purdue, many social activities center around campus events, outdoor recreational activities, and the lively sports culture — Purdue’s Boilermakers are big in the Big Ten Conference. At IU, sports, particularly basketball, are also a major social activity, as are music and arts events. Greek life is significant at both schools, albeit more so at IU, which might be worth considering if you are interested in that.

Each university has its distinctive strengths and campus vibes, so consider visiting both campuses, if possible, to get a feel for each one. It's not just about which school is better in general, but which is better for you specifically. An overnight visit or attending a class might help you to get an insider's look at what it would be like to be a student at each school. Best of luck with your decision!
