How can I calculate my GPA for Stanford?

Hi there! I'm really interested in Stanford and I'm trying to figure out how my current GPA would translate into Stanford's scale. Like, do they use a different GPA scale or something? If anyone could help me understand this better, that would be amazing.

Sure, I can walk you through how to calculate and interpret your GPA using Stanford's scale. Stanford University, like many other U.S. universities, uses a 4.0 scale. Here's how grades generally translate:

- An A+ or A grade ranges from 4.0-4.3 points

- An A- equals 3.7

- A B+ equals 3.3

- A B equals 3.0

- A B- equals 2.7

- A C+ equals 2.3

- A C equals 2.0

- A C- equals 1.7

- And so on

To calculate your GPA, assign each of your classes a point value based on your final grade in the class. So, if you got two A's and two B's, you'd have 4.0 + 4.0 + 3.0 + 3.0 = 14. Then, divide this number by the number of classes. In this case, 14 ÷ 4 = 3.5 and that’s your GPA!

Remember that Stanford does use a holistic review process, so while GPA is important, they also look at your course rigor, extracurricular activities, essays, recommendations, etc. A lower GPA can be offset by strength in other areas, and vice versa. Hope this helps!
