Is a PSAT score of 1460 considered competitive?

Hey everyone, I just got my PSAT score back and it's a 1460. I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm wondering, is this score competitive for things like National Merit Scholarships? What kind of SAT score might this predict?

Congratulations on your score! A PSAT score of 1460 is indeed very competitive. For perspective, the highest possible score on the PSAT is 1520, so you're quite close to the top. Your score places you well within the range for National Merit consideration, though the exact cutoff for semifinalist status varies by state and year. Typically, you’d need to be in the top 1% of scorers in your state. As for the SAT, scores on the PSAT are indicative of how you might perform. A 1460 on the PSAT suggests that you could achieve a similarly high score on the SAT, especially with additional practice and preparation. Remember, though, that each test administration could vary in difficulty, and factors like testing conditions and your own level of preparation on the test day can influence your performance. Keep up the good study habits and consider taking a practice SAT under timed conditions to get a more accurate prediction!
